How to change default format when taking screenshot in Mac OSX

You know the power of using keyboard to take screenshot in Mac OSX? If you don’t know, please follow this post.

By default, Mac OSX save the file in PNG format, but more than that, it allows you to change the output format of your choice, being jpg, bmp or tiff ….

– Open Terminal (from your Spotlight or Application->Utilities folder)

– Enter the command

defaults write com.apple.screencapture type jpg

 

– Change jpg to bmp or tiff or png if you like

defaults write com.apple.screencapture type bmp

defaults write com.apple.screencapture type tiff

defaults write com.apple.screencapture type png

 

– Okay, now you need to make the change to take effect

killall SystemUIServer

taking_screenshot_change_format_macosx

– Now try to take screenshot and see the changes
